The Atascadero Greyhounds are looking to hit their stride this week before league play opens next week. Atascadero High basketball's 48th annual Christmas Tournament opens on Thursday.
Riddled with injuries and the late arrival of football players after their CIF semifinal run, the Greyhounds lost their first five games under first year head coach Matt Knudson. Since then, Atascadero has won four of its last five games."I expect them to go hard everyday. That's my one expectation is to go hard and we hope to play smart," said Knudson.
Led by juniors Robbie Berwick and Jared Studeman, the Hounds are young and loaded with potential.
"He has great rapport with the kids. And we're going to start winning games because I believe in him and I know he'll make the best out of us," added Berwick, who had two triple-doubles during the Hounds' 3-1 performance recently at a tournament hosted by Arroyo Grande High.
The Hounds open the tournament against Steele Canyon at 6:45pm Thursday. Templeton, Pioneer Valley and Paso Robles are also in the field of seven teams.
Pac 7 League play opens next week.
