Grover Beach Police: SWAT team enters home, find man dead from self-inflicted gunshot

Grover Beach Police tell KSBY News William Forgey has shot himself. They say he was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when SWAT members entered the home on Mentone Avenue in Grover Beach just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The SWAT team used gas similar to a strong pepper spray to try to coax Forgey out of the home. They also used a loud speaker to communicate with him but say Forgey was responding.

According to our crew who was on scene all night, SWAT officers yelled to Forgey to "Come out with his hands up."

Grover Beach Police believed Forgey was armed and dangerous.

PG&E shut power to the home late Tuesday night.

Grover Beach Police, the California Highway Patrol, Arroyo Grande Police, SWAT teams, undercover police, and K-9 Units responded to the standoff.

Police say he shot and injured his estranged wife and shot at a neighbor on Saturday, although the neighbor was not hit.

Police say they believe Forgey fled to the Sacramento area after the shooting. They say he rented a car before driving back to the Central Coast.
