Diego Gutierrez scored late in the first overtime to deliver an important 1-0 win for the Santa Ynez High boys soccer team at second place Morro Bay on Wednesday.
Santa Ynez, the defending Los Padres League champions, improved to 6-1-1 in league. Morro Bay, which is still in the mix for its first league title in more than a decade, fell to 5-3-1 in league after its second-straight defeat.
Gutierrez won the ball just outside the box in the 88th minute when he created some space and buried a shot inside the upper left corner of the goal.
The Nipomo Titans continued their surge in the standings. The defending co-champions blanked Templeton 1-0 on Thursday to improve to 5-2-2 overall. Efrain Navarro scored the game-winner in the 61st minute on a ball assisted by Aaron Robles. Jason Alvarado had two saves in goal for Nipomo.
