For the second time this season and first time in more than a month, the Cuesta College women's basketball team enters the Southern California Regional Coaches Poll.
The Lady Cougars received 17 points to finish 14th in the region in this week's poll. Head Coach Ron Barba's ladies are off to a 13-7 start. They won their Western State Conference opener last week at then-14th ranked Moorpark.
Morro Bay High graduate Aria Johnson leads the team in scoring at 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Freshman Courtney Chadwick averages 13.8 points, while Atascadero High graduate Alyssa Palma drops 13.2 points per contest.
The Cuesta men are ranked 15th this week in the So-Cal Regional Poll. The Allan Hancock College men are 11th. The Cougars are 14-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Bulldogs are 2-0 in WSC play and 14-6-1 on the season.
Hancock guard Khufu Najee is averaging 16.8 points per game to lead the Bulldogs, while Plamen Hristov paces Cuesta at 15.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He scored 25 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in Cuesta's 81-80 win last week at Moorpark.
The Cougars host LA Pierce Wednesday night in a doubleheader with the men starting at 5pm and the women at 7pm. It'll be the Cuesta men's first home game in 22 contests.
The Hancock men return to action at home against Ventura Saturday at 5pm.
