High surf advisory now in effect until 9 am Tuesday
Surf between 8 and 12 feet with local sets to 14 feet will subside slowly through Tuesday morning for west and northwest and west facing shores from Point Conception to the Monterey County line.
There is also a high tide near 5.3 feet is expected around 630 am Tuesday morning.
The high surf will cause dangerous rip currents on all beaches posing a threat to all swimmers. In addition sneaker waves can inundate beaches and overtop jetties.
If caught in a rip current do not try to swim against the current. Swim across the current until away from the strong flow and then swim to shore.
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
