"You have all kinds of fire arms, from all the wars, civil war, world war one, world war two, the modern fire arms," said Richard Bird, owner of Richard's Guns.

Last month, President Obama listed off a number of executive orders aimed at preventing gun violence.
Right now, federally licensed firearms dealers are required to run background checks.
The White House estimates that nearly 40 percent of all gun sales are made by private sellers who are exempt from this requirement.
Many of them are found at local gun shows around the country.

Richard Byrd is a jack of all trades when it comes to fire arms.

"I repair, sell, trade, a little bit of everything," said Byrd.

After twenty-five years in the business, he's seen just about everything, and over that time he's been a staple at local gun shows on the central coast.

"Most of them are there to look at the fire arms more than purchase I want to say," said Byrd who has run the Santa Maria Gun Show for years.

Byrd says the latest proposed gun regulations won't change how business is done at local shows, at least not in California.

"There's always a ten day wait regardless of whether it's from a gun show or from a gun store," said Byrd, "They do a background check and if they find anything wrong within the ten days, you're refused."

Byrd says even if there was something in the proposal that would change how business is handled in the state, like the assault weapons ban.
He says it won't affect the show at the Santa Maria fair grounds in a month.

"You'd have to have a law passed immediately and I've never seen that occur," said Byrd.
