It's all about celebrating the a favorite mollusk of Morro Bay this weekend. As part of the Morro Bay Oyster and Music Festival you can test your skills at shucking. But this isn't just a hometown competition. There's a skill to getting these seaside delicacies ready for consumption and last year they had a big turnout. This Saturay shuckers from all over the state will once again compete for the title of King Shucker and $500 cash.
The competition is sponsored by Morro Bay Oyster Company. The Central Coast Oyster & Music Festival is this Saturday, October 19th on the Morro Bay Golf Course from noon to 8 p.m. The forecast looks great and this will be a great spot to check out sunset and enjoy the early evening with a the golf course being lit up for the early evening. There will be more than 40 local food and retail vendors, and of course local beer and wine. Tickets are $28.00 at the door. Children's tickets are $10.00.
If you'd like to try your hand at shucking in the competition, click here. There is also a competition for the best oysters being served up Saturday and there will be a food demonstration by Mark Tognazzini of Tognazinni's Dockside, one of the sponsors of this year's festival.
