Arroyo Grande senior Madison Jacobs will get another chance to win a state championship in the discus throw. Jacobs was one of 12 throwers to qualify for the finals at the State Track and Field Meet in Clovis. Jacobs had a the fifth best throw in qualifying of 143 feet, 9 inches. Senior Nikki Okwelogu from Clovis West had the best qualifying mark of 170-06. Junior Stamatia Scarvelis of Dos Pueblos was second at 153 feet. Jacobs' best throw this season was 163-11 which is now the third best throw in the state this year.
Jacobs also qualified in the shot put, placing 10th in the prelims, clearing 41-02. Scarvelis from Dos Pueblos had the best mark of 51-11.00.
Lompoc senior Nikko Hayes had the fifth best qualifying time in the 300 meter hurdles, Hayes finished in 37.59. Hayes was .29 seconds behind the fastest qualifier, Lloyd Sicard from Serra. The top nine finishers qualified for the finals meaning Hayes will have a shot at a state title.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Arroyo Grande senior Elijah Holt missed out on qualifying for the finals by .03 seconds. Holt had the tenth fastest qualifying time of 14.37 with the top nine qualifying for the finals. Junior Marquis Morris from DeLaSalle ran the fastest in prelims, clocking a time of 13.92. The final qualifier ran a time of 14.34.
The finals are Saturday.
