JT's pick of the week: Vintage Paso: Zinfandel (and other wild wines)

Most people who've been around for awhile know it at Zin-Fest weekend in Paso Robles. Offiically this year it's called "Vintage Paso: Zinfandel and Other Wild Wines" weekend. Either way it starts tomorrow and it's my pick of the week this week.

It's one of the more "festive" wine festivals of the year for Paso Robles. It's a celebration of the oldest varietal of the area and a welcome to the new 2014 vintage of all local varietals. Basically it's kick-off weekend for local vintners of the big spring-summer growing, pruning and partying season. It's book-ended in the fall by Harvest weekend.

Starting tomorrow through Sunday, more than 130 wineries in the Paso area will roll out the red-carpet for visitors. Free tastings, barbecues, special food pairings, music, art, winemaker dinners and in the case of Tobin James, massive parties. (Last year Toby and the gang had five bands, about 40 food vendors and tall pours at the big Zin-Fest festivities.) There are charges for some of the big bashes, and events but lots of freebies to take advantage of too. And the weather looks to be perfect.

To search festivities by event, day or winery, pick up a Vintage Paso event booklet at north county wineries, or click here.

And don't forget Taste of Solvang, the event we told you about on Tuesday. For more information on that, click here.
