Judge is last Tiger standing

San Luis Obispo made it all the way to the CIF semifinals last year. The only player back from that team is Jessica Judge. "It's kind of hard to get used to, even in practice, just getting used to a whole new different set of girls but it's also kind of fun getting to know new people and getting to work with new people" said Judge.

The reigning Pac-7 Defensive Player of the Year is in her fourth season on varsity and trying to pass on her experiences to the new crop of young teammates. "It's a good situation for her to be in because it really tests your character as a person and as a teammate. Being able to be that senior leader who's had that experience and been there and be able to share it with the younger players" said head coach Dan Monroe.

Judge is an all around talent capable of playing any position. Last season she was second on the team in scoring and steals and first in rebounding, blocks and assists. Her numbers were good enough to earn her a selection on the CIF-SS Division-3 First Team. Basketball is the only sport Judge plays and she plays it year round. "If it didn't mean a lot I wouldn't put in the extra hours or work super hard to get where I am or put in that extra time. A lot of times when I'm having a bad day or whatever I just go and play basketball because it makes me feel better" said Judge.

Judge plans to continue her career next year in College. Monroe thinks she has the work ethic to play at the next level. "I've never seen anyone, guys or girls, I've been coaching for ten years at San Luis high. I've never seen anyone work harder than she does. I don't know how many times she's been in the gym after practice putting up shots before practice or coming in on holidays and wanting to shoot" said Monroe.

The Tigers expect to take some lumps early in the season but led by Judge hope to be ready to compete for a playoff spot once Pac-7 play starts in January.

Judge scored 13 of San Luis Obispo's 27 points in a 42-27 loss at Morro Bay on Tuesday. The Tigers second game will be on Thursday against Paso Robles at the Atascadero tournament.
