A jury in Santa Maria began deliberating the case Tuesday afternoon of a former Lompoc federal prison guard charged with murder for shooting another guard in March of 2012.
Timothy McNally's attorney argued the shooting of Gary Bent in a Lompoc hotel room was an accident that happened while they were partying, but not a crime.
The prosecutor told jurors McNally knew the dangers of using a firearm while he was drinking and that the evidence shows McNally is guilty as charged.
