Barely twelve hours after winning its Pac 7 League opener at Arroyo Grande High Wednesday, the St. Joseph boys basketball team opened its title defense at a tournament with two victories in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday morning.
The Knights won their opener at 9:30 am 82-40 over Vegas based Calvary Chapel Christian. The Knights led 48-24 at halftime and cruised from there. Case Bruton led the Knights with 20 points, while Curry Parham and Dominique Prophete added 11 points apiece.
Bruton dropped 28 points and Parham poured in 18 in St. Joseph's 84-71 win over Sunrise Mountain out of Las Vegas in the second round. The Knights improved to 9-3 overall and advanced to Friday's semifinals.
St. Joseph knocked off defending Pac 7 League champion Arroyo Grande 58-52 on Wednesday night. Bruton led the Knights in that one with 20 points, while Parham added 14 in a game that started at 6pm Wednesday.
The Knights are trying to capture their third-straight championship at the Vegas Invitational.
