NEWHALL, Calif. (AP) - An LA-area senior center has been unscrooged.

A day after residents at an apartment complex for seniors in Newhall north of Los Angeles, were ordered to remove a Christmas tree and menorahs because of a ban on religious symbols in communal areas, the building's management said Thursday that they could return.

The ban caused an outcry on social media and objections from politicians, and two dozen residents gathered in the lobby of the building known as the Willows on Wednesday with a neon green sign they hung like an ornament reading "please save our tree."

Monica Morones of Tarzana-based JB Partners Group Inc., the building's management company, said the tree's removal was the result of a miscommunication between the company and staff at the Willows.
