LA-Long Beach port strike enters second week

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A strike that's closed most of the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex enters its second week as LA's mayor calls for round-the-clock talks to end it.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa sent a letter Sunday to strikers and management, urging them to negotiate 24/7 instead of breaking off talks nightly. He also wants them to use a mediator.
The strike that began last Tuesday has shut 10 terminals at the nation's busiest court complex. Villaraigosa says it's costing the local economy billions of dollars.
Dockworkers refuse to cross picket lines set up by union clerical workers, who've been wrangling with shippers over a new contract for 2 ½ years. The clerical workers claim terminal operators are outsourcing their well-paid jobs - a claim that shipper deny.
