Lady Tigers preparing for first playoff game since '10

For the first time in three years, the San Luis Obispo High girls basketball team is preparing for a C.I.F. playoff game. The Tigers went 15-10 during the regular season 9-3 in Pac 7 League play under second year head coach Dan Monroe.

This is the same team that went 1-24 two years ago and 9-16 last season. Now, the Tigers are riding a five game winning streak and the #4 seed in the Division 3A playoffs.

"We've come a long way and I think as a coach you want your team to play the best basketball at the end of the year. I feel like we're doing that right now. They finally figured out what it takes to win. We're playing very good defensively right now I think that's our strength," said coach Monroe, who's team is limiting opponents to 36 points per game. He also credited his seniors for leading the squad on and off the court.

The team has already accomplished a few significant wins this season. The Tigers beat Arroyo Grande for the first time in ten years a few weeks ago, and they knocked off previously undefeated St. Joseph last week.

"To finally make it here it just so gratifying for us but now we know we just need to work even harder to take it to the next level and that's really exciting for us. And if we play together like we have been, especially this past week, I think we have a very good chance of being very successful," said junior Jessie Judge, who's averaging about 8 points and 8 rebounds per game.

The Tigers host Cabrillo Thursday at 7 p.m. in a first round game. The last time the Tigers won a playoff game was against the Conquistadores in the first round of the 2008-09 season.
