League champions AG and Cabrillo girls soccer advance in CIF

After squandering several scoring opportunities in the first 59 minutes, Lupita Leon headed home a ball off a cross from Elizabeth Heyde to get Arroyo Grande on the board. The Eagles went on to beat visiting Burbank 2-0 in the first round of the Division 3 playoffs.

Sophomore Jane Summers added an insurance goal after she dribbled by three defenders and put it in the back of the net. Leon assisted on that goal.

The Pac 7 League champion Eagles improved to 17-1-6 overall. They play either Pacific or Los Altos in next Tuesday's second round.

San Luis Obispo allowed a first half goal and never recovered. The Tigers fell 1-0 at Crescenta Valley to finish the season 14-11-1. San Luis Obispo missed a penalty kick with about 12 minutes to go in the match and could not deliver the equalizer the rest of the way.

Adreanna Villanueva, Erika Navarro, Marissa Reyna and Kesley Sherry netted goals for Cabrillo as the Conquistadores blanked visiting Patriot 4-0 in the first round of the Division 5 bracket.

Villanueva and Navarro each scored in the first half to give Cabrillo a 2-0 lead at the break.

The Conqs improved to 13-7-4, while Patriot's season finished with a 10-12-3 mark. The Conquistadores are coming off back-to-back CIF semifinal appearances and play at Grand Terrance next Tuesday in the second round.

Los Padres League champion Santa Ynez stumbled at home and lost 4-0 to Temescal Canyon. The Pirates ended the year 13-8-2.

The Nipomo girls lost 9-0 at La Quinta in the first round to finish 12-10-2.

Righetti overcame an early 1-0 deficit to beat Cypress in overtime 2-1. The Warriors improved to 16-8-1.
