Mission Prep wide receiver Joey Hall has put up some eye popping statistics this season. In 12 games the senior has 52 catches for 1,214 yards and 22 touchdowns. He's also returned two kick-offs for touchdowns. The stats are proof of Hall's hard work over the years but not as important to him as Friday's Northeast Division Championship game at Rio Hondo Prep. "It's the whole season for me, we've been working hard this season and that's our number one goal is to win a CIF championship" said Hall.
Hall isn't a big target, just 5'9", but he's usually an open one because of his speed and route running. "He's just a tenacious, competitive individual. He's a kid that works harder than anybody I've ever seen, whatever it may be. You ask him to do something, he's not only a hard worker and a great athlete but he's a student of the game" said Mission Prep head coach Chad Henry.
Royals senior quarterback Tyler Baty has thrown 43 touchdown passes this season with more than half going to Hall. The two have spent a lot of time working on the connection. "My first year with Tyler was eighth grade, I missed him freshman year and then I was able to start throwing with him again sophomore year when he came to Mission" said Hall.
Baty says sometimes he just throws the ball up for Hall, expecting him to make a play. Baty says hours of throwing sessions during the off-season have helped them be so cohesive. "He's worked hard at the little things. His routes and making catches the last three years" said Baty about Hall.
Hall says he wants to continue playing football next year in college but so far the big school offers haven't come. "Unfortunately when people are looking at things such as height and speed and weight, he's a guy that flies under the radar. But if you want to go on intangibles and heart and determination and sheer I'm going to get it done and I'm a football player, Joey Hall has everything" said Henry who thinks Hall is good enough to play at the FCS level.
Hall had three touchdown catches in Mission Prep's semifinal win against Salesian. He also had three touchdown catches in the Royals 47-14 win at Rio Hondo Prep on August 31.
Hall leads the state with his 22 touchdown receptions. He has 42 TD catches in his three-year varsity career.
Mission Prep's rematch at Rio Hondo Prep starts at 7:00pm in Arcadia on Friday night. The championship game will be streamed live on Prep Zone. Click here for the link.
