Legends in the Making: Zach Stevens

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - By just about any measure, Zach Stevens is one of the best high school swimmers in the country.

The Arroyo Grande senior already owns an individual CIF title, already has experience in the World Championship Trials, and competed in the United States Olympic trials in 2012.

"There's a lot of guys that are talented, but some of them don't really figure it out," said Arroyo Grande head coach Russell Peterson, "he's figured it out, you combine his talent and his work ethic and that's what makes him the swimmer that he is."

Stevens, who specializes in the breaststroke, will begin his collegiate career at one of the most prestigious schools in the nation this fall, the University of California at Berkeley.

The Golden Bears have won NCAA Championships in two of the past three seasons.

"It's a great opportunity to have access to not just the coaching staff, but those great racers as well," Stevens said, "It's a once and a lifetime experience to get to go to practice and work with world renown swimmers every single day."

Stevens has helped lead Arroyo Grande to a 4-0 start this season. The Eagles take on San Luis Obispo tomorrow afternoon.
