A detective with the San Luis Obispo Police Department was arrested Tuesday morning on federal bribery charges, according to the United States Attorney's Office. A news release says Cory Pierce, 39, of Arroyo Grande allegedly took cash and drugs from two people and in return provided those people with drugs for their own use as well as fake drugs to sell to dealers.

The attorney's office says FBI agents took Pierce into custody without incident. It says a criminal complaint was filed Monday in United States District Court of Los Angeles.

Court documents show Pierce has been with the San Luis Obispo Police Department for six years, the release says.

A news conference is planned for 2 p.m. at San Luis Obispo Police headquarters.
