Patrick Laird's record setting season at Mission Prep was voted the biggest Central Coast sports story of 2013. Laird rushed for a Central Coast record, 3,117 yards in leading the Royals to the CIF championship game. The senior was the third leading rusher in the state.
After a week of voting on ksby.com, Laird's season received 43-percent of votes. The Arroyo Grande girls water polo team winning its 100th straight Pac-7 game was second with 13-percent of the vote.
Laird scored 36 touchdowns while also playing full-time on defense. He will have a big college decision to make in the new year. Laird is getting interest from Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth, Yale and Cornell. He's also considering Cal Poly, Cal and UCLA.
The 2012 story of the year was the Arroyo Grande girls basketball team winning a CIF championship.
