The 58th annual Sam Boyd California Invitational Wrestling Tournament opened on Friday at Morro Bay High School. Better known as the C.I.T., this year's two-day meet featured wrestlers from 61 high schools from the Central Coast and across the state.

Several Central Coast wrestlers ended day one undefeated and advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals of the winners' brackets.

Atascadero High is well represented in the quarterfinals with 126 pounder Dan Santos, 182 pounder Hunter Stemper and heavyweight Andy Vasquez among those earning spots. Lompoc's Josh Powers (285 pounds), Morro Bay's Trajan Beecham (145 pounds) and Andrew Unks (Heavyweight), San Luis Obispo's Nathan Lichti (152 pounds), Pioneer Valley's Roy Ruiz (190) and Nipomo's Jared Dorado also moved on to the Elite 8 stage of the championship bracket.

Many more local wrestlers, like Atascdero's Nick Ducasse, Arroyo Grande's Evan Johnston and Cabrillo's Michael Moreno are still alive in the consolation bracket.

The meet ends on Saturday. The finals are set to begin around 4pm.
