Cal Poly sophomore wrestler Devon Lotito finished second while freshman Spencer Empey placed fourth at the Pac-12 Wrestling Championships held Sunday at Stanford University.
The second place finish at 133 pounds qualifies Lotito for the NCAA Division I National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa on March 20. Lotito won his first two matches by major decision to reach the final round where he dropped a 5-2 decision to Stanford's Ryan Mango in the finals.
Lotito won the Pac-12 title at 133 pounds a year ago en route to a spot in the nationals. Mango was a redshirt last season.
Empey placed fourth at 285 pounds with a 1-2 record.
Senior Britain Longmire placed fifth at 125 pounds. 174-pounder Dominic Kastl, the Pac-12 champion at 165 pounds two seasons ago, lost his first match Sunday to Joe Latham of Oregon State, 11-8. He then defaulted his remaining two matches due to injury.
Cal Poly scored 74.5 points to finish last in the six-team field. Oregon State won its third straight Pac-12 team title with 155.5 points, followed by Stanford with 134 points and Boise State with 128.5 points.
