The California Highway Patrol was called out to Highway 101 exit near Clark Avenue in Santa Maria around 3:20 Tuesday morning.

The driver says she was driving southbound on highway 101 when here rear passenger started feeling sick. She then pulled off the road onto Clark Avenue, stopping in the far right lane. That's when a second car exited the freeway and ran into the left rear of the car.

The passenger was taken to a nearby hospital where she suffers from major injuries. No one else was injured. Police believe drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
