Man accused of shooting and killing his mother was in a San Luis Obispo courtroom

Christopher Shumey appeared more coherent and cleaner shaven today in court as his murder trial continued.

Shumey who shot and killed his mother plead not guilty by reason of insanity. Shumey is also accused of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon.

Previously in court, Shumey could be seen dozing off but seemed more attentive in court to the witness testimonies and evidence presented by attorneys.

The first witness lived in the house that was hit by a bullet Shumey shot from his window across the street.

After hearing the first two gunshots fired at Shumey's mother as well as her screams, the witness went outside where neighbors were gathering.

When Shumey shot out his window, the witness and other neighbors ducked behind cars and later saw Shumey jump from his window where he surrendered to cops.

Evidence technician for San Luis Obispo Police Department, John Lehr, was the second witness to testify.

Lehr shared information that suggests the bullet Shumey shot from his window was meant to hit a police officer in his car in front of the house that was hit.

He also discussed pictures shared in court from the scene of the crime including photographs of the bullet wounds of the victim as well as where the third shot fired hit the house.
