Man arrested for allegedly pointing replica firearm at cyclist

Santa Barbara police on Thursday arrested a man who they say pointed a replica firearm at a passing bicyclist.

Police say the incident happened shortly before 8:00 am at the intersection of Garden and Micheltorena Streets.

They say Aaron Perez, 25, of Santa Barbara, was standing next to his vehicle, and when a cyclist passed by, Perez took a BB gun out of his car and pointed it at the man.

The cyclist called police and conducted a citizen's arrest of Perez.

Police say Perez was found with two BB guns that are replicas of the Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun.

Perez was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of brandishing a replica firearm in a rude or threatening manner.
