Paso Robles Police say a man is in jail in connection with a carjacking and sexual assault.
Police say on Sunday the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office transported a victim who had reported an incident near San Miguel.
The 19 year old woman told police she was coerced by two men to drive them to San Ardo in Monterey County. She said one of the men got out of the car, and the other stayed behind. She said he then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint inside her car before taking her back to San Miguel.
The woman was able to escape and called 911.
The information about the two men was broadcast to Monterey and San Luis Obispo County law enforcement agencies early Monday morning. Police said the abandoned car was found near San Ardo.
Police later found the two men in San Ardo. One of the men, Edson Tapia, 21, was arrested and transported back to Paso Robles. Tapia was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail for carjacking, forcible rape, auto theft, and kidnapping charges.
The second man was interviewed in San Ardo, and later released.
The investigation is on going and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 549-STOP or call the Paso Robles Police Department.
