The San Luis Obispo Police Department is investigating a major-injury crash on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Morro Bay offramp.
The CHP says two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes.
One of the vehicles spun off onto the shoulder and had minor damage, the CHP said.
The other vehicle, a Ford F-150, hit a highway sign, snapping it off, and then landed on top of the guardrail. The male driver of the truck was rushed to the hospital.
People living in the area reported hearing a loud boom and explosion outside of their homes.
