OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Police in Oakland have identified a man suspected of shooting an officer in the leg in the city's Fruitvale district.

The Oakland Tribune says (http://bit.ly/VqZOut) 30-year-old Nathan Cook fired at two officers who were investigating gunshots heard while they were responding to a nearby hit-and-run crash on Friday. The officer, who was shot in the leg chased Cook until he surrendered.

It was the second shooting of an Oakland police officer in a week.

On Jan. 21, an undercover detective was shot in the arm while investigating a homicide in East Oakland. Two suspected gang members on parole were arrested and three others were detained in connection to the shooting.

Police officials planned to hold a news conference Monday to discuss the attacks on the officers.
