The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office says the man who led California Highway Patrol officers on a chase from the Coalinga area to Paso Robles Sunday night has died.
He has been identified as 29-year-old Nathan Hamilton of Woodland Hills.
Authorities say he shot himself after officers used a spike strip to stop the pickup truck he was driving.
He was taken to Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton for treatment.
There's no word on when he died.
Sheriff's officials say an autopsy is pending.
