Morro Bay High graduate Aria Johnson has been named the state's Female Athlete of the Month for December. The award comes from the California Community College Athletic Association and CCC Sports Information Association,
The Cuesta College sophomore forward averaged 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the month of the December. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at three different tournaments and tallied four double-doubles.
She has the Lady Cougars off to a 13-7 start and in position for their first playoff berth in seven years. Cuesta is ranked #14 this week in the latest Southern California Regional Poll.
For the season, Johnson is averaging a team-high 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Cuesta men's basketball player Plamen Hristov was an honorable mention for the Male Athlete of the Month award. He leads the Cougars with 15.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest. The Cuesta men are ranked #15 this week in the So-Cal Region.
The men host Moorpark Wednesday at 5pm with the women's game scheduled for 7pm.
