HONOLULU (AP) - President Barack Obama, Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie and other dignitaries have attended a memorial service for the late Sen. Daniel Inouye.

A 19-gun cannon salute was fired as Inouye's coffin arrived for today's service.

Several senators and cabinet secretaries are also at Honolulu's National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

The site serves as the final resting place to thousands of World War II veterans, including more than 400 memberships of the storied Japanese-American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, of which Inouye was a part.

The 88-year-old Inouye died of respiratory complications last Monday. He was the first Japanese-American elected to both houses of Congress and the second-longest serving senator in U.S. history.
