Men's Soccer Head Coach Paul Holocher resigns

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Cal Poly men's soccer head coach Paul Holocher, who directed the Mustangs to a 72-60-25 record during eight previous seasons, has resigned his position to pursue a new role as Director of Development with Maui United Soccer Club.

"I would like to thank Cal Poly Athletics for having given me the opportunity to coach and develop the Mustang soccer program over the last eight years." Holocher said. "I have enjoyed the experience immensely and I'm very pleased and proud with where the program has come during this time."

It was announced by Director of Athletics Don Oberhelman on Monday.

"I'd like to thank Paul for his time at Cal Poly and all of his contributions," Oberhelman said on Monday. "Paul helped the program improve on the field, increased attendance at Alex G. Spanos Stadium and energized the Central Coast through soccer community outreach efforts."

The Mustang Athletics Department also announced on Monday that second-year assistant coach Phil Ruskin has been named interim head coach.

After arriving at Cal Poly for the 2006 season, Holocher directed the Mustangs to five winning years and won double-digit matches in a season four times. Under Holocher, Cal Poly was 42-15-10 at Spanos Stadium.

"I want to especially thank all the great friends and soccer fans who have been so supportive to the program over my time here as coach." Holocher said. "I have a genuine love for this amazing university, San Luis Obispo and the Central Coast community. The time is right for a new adventure and challenge and my family and I are excited for this. I'm looking forward to continuing my growth as a coach and sharing my experience with the youth players of Maui."
