Alex Mero and Jordan Robinson combined for 25 points to make a winner out of first year head coach Bryan Hutchens in his debut as the Arroyo Grande High girls basketball defeated Mission Prep 47-30 on Thursday night.
The Royals, the defending CIF Division 5AA champions and CIF State runners-up, scored the first eight points of the game, But the defending Division 3AAA champions exploded on an 13-0 run to take control of the game in the first half.
Mero finished with a game-high 14 points, while Robinson added 11 points.
Connor Storlie led the Royals with 10 points in the loss. Mission dropped to 1-1, while the Eagles improved to 1-0.
It was all part of the first annual Jay Cowitz Invitational, the first tournament hosted by the Mission girls basketball team.
The tournament continues on Friday when Arroyo Grande plays Moorpark at 3pm, Castilleja plays Bishop Diego at 4:30 and San Luis Obispo battles International at 6pm.
