SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have confirmed a body found in a car that plunged hundreds of feet off a mountain road north of Los Angeles is that of a young woman who went missing early New Year's Day.
Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore says 19-year-old Sarah Alarid of Santa Clarita appears to have died as a result of an accident.
Fire officials say the car was reported in the Angeles National Forest shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday. Alarid's body was found nearby but it's unclear how long she has been there.
Her family says Alarid was last seen leaving a party in a Ford Focus before dawn on New Year's Day. The crash site is several miles southeast of the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita, where Alarid was last seen.
