The Mission Prep boys basketball team lost in the finals of the 40th Annual Taro Kobara Tournamant at Arroyo Grande High School. The Royals won three games in as many days to earn a spot in the championship game against Thousand Oaks. It was the second game of the day for both teams and Thousand Oaks won 54-48.
The Lancers were up 29-18 at the half and 42-32 going into the fourth quarter. The Royals battled back to tie it with 41 seconds left on a three pointer by senior forward Conner Woolpert. After the shot dropped, Thousand Oaks rushed down court for a go-ahead dunk. Mission Prep turned it over after that and the Lancers sealed the game with free throws.
Andy Rowley led the Royals with 21 points, the senior guard hit five long balls including four in the second half. Woolpert had 14 points. It was the Royals first loss of the season as they drop to 4-1.
Four other Central Coast teams played in the eight team tournament. Atascadero and Arroyo Grande both went 3-1 in the three day tournament. Paso Robles went 1-3 while Nipomo was 0-4.
