More information released on Atascadero war vets memorial site vandalism

Atascadero Police have released more information on the New Year's Day vandalism that happened at the Faces of Freedom Veterans Memorial.

Police said around 10 a.m., someone drove through the memorial on the corner of Portola Road and Morro Road, destroying nearly $15,000 worth of property.

Police say surveillance video shows the pickup truck as a 1988 to 1997 maroon Chevrolet Crew Cab with a black lumber rack and a toolbox in the bed. They say it has a chrome body trim along the bottom of both sides and on the wheel wells. It also has dark tinted rear windows and the tailgate has a chrome strip with the word "Chevrolet" in black across it.

Atascadero Police Sergeant Jason Carr said the driver could face a charge of felony vandalism. He said the truck would have obvious damage on both sides.

Investigators urge anyone who has information on this case to contact police.
