Morro Bay led from start to finish as the Lady Pirates dominated St. Mary's Academy 58-10 in a first round Division 4AA CIF playoff game on Thursday night.
The Pirates improved to 22-3 on the season and advanced to the second round of the postseason for the fifth year in a row. Morro Bay has not made it out of the second round for at least eight years.
Hannah Gilbert led the Pirates with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Sierra Schwellenbach put in another all-around game with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 8 steals.
Morro Bay, the #8 seed in the division, travels to #9 Rosary on Saturday for a second round game. Rosary beat Poly out of Pasadena 54-35 in the first round.
The Templeton girls saw their season come to a close with a 78-45 first round loss to 7th seeded Bishop Montgomery. The Eagles trailed 37-19 at the half.
Junior Mari Stewart led the Eagles with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Marissa Torres added 8 points for Templeton, which finished the year 21-5 overall. Templeton returns every key player next year in Stewart, Torres, Autumn Russell, Megan Hattar and Briana Belmonte.
The Lompoc girls lost at home to #6 Santa Margarita 65-47 in a Division 3A contest.
Nipomo fell at Oaks Christian, the #5 seed in Division 4AA, 84-26. The Titans ended the year 14-12, but still made the program's second CIF appearance in school history.
Santa Maria lost on the road in Beverly Hills 68-40 in a Division 3AAA contest.
