SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - A mountain lion roaming a Santa Barbara neighborhood has put residents and an elementary school on alert while wildlife experts prepare to tranquilize the animal.

The cougar was reported Monday morning in an Apple Grove Circle backyard near the Earl Warren Showgrounds.

Residents with small pets and children are urged to stay indoors. Administrators at nearby Adams Elementary School were notified as a precaution but the school hasn't been placed on lockdown.

Department of Fish and Wildlife officials are standing by with a tranquilizer dart if the cougar doesn't move back into the nearby mountains.
