Music in the streets of Pismo Beach this weekend

It will be a battle of the bands in Pismo Beach this weekend as the Chamber of Commerce Sponsors the 34th Annual Marching Band Review. 22 Bands from SLO County and the Central Valley vie in Street Marching & Drum Line Competitions.

The bands will take to the streets on Saturday morning, November 3rd. The Review is one of the Pismo's most spirited and loved yearly events. Thousands of musicians, their families and music fans of all ages converge on Pismo Beach for what the City deems as one of its Legacy Events.

The Marching Band Review has been in existence for 34 years and attracts crowds up to 10,000 annually. This official street marching and drum line competition will feature 22 high school and middle school bands from throughout California.

The opening ceremony starts at 8:30am and will feature the Arroyo Grande High School Eagle Marching Band playing the National Anthem. The first competing band will step off at 8:45am. The street marching competition route will run along Dolliver Street in the heart of Pismo Beach with the judges' reviewing stand located just north of Pomeroy Ave.

The drum line competition happens at the Pismo Pier throughout the morning running concurrent with the street marching competition. There are four divisions which include small and large high schools and small and large middle schools. Bands are judged in the following areas: musical performances, showmanship, marching, drum major, tall flags, I.D. Units and Percussion. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 1:30PM on the Pismo Pier.
