The Amgen Tour of California isn't the only new thing coming to Avila Beach. If you happen to make it to Avila for the big bike race this week, check out what's going in at the corner of Front and San Luis Streets.
Construction is underway on a new restaurant coming to the beach community. The Ocean Grill Avila Beach is set to open in July, with ocean views inside and out.
Dan Harper, founder-operator of Cabo San Luis joins foces with Executive Chef Michael Reyes says it will feature Coastal California Cuisine relying heavily on local farms, fisheries and wines. Harper says they hope to open in July.
Harper is a San Luis Obispo native and will act as General Manager. "I am exited to have the ‘Cabo Taco' available once again. The fish tacos will taste even better relaxing on the patio with awesome ocean views."
Executive Chef Michael Reyes is a Cal Poly alumni and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He's returning to the area most recently from the Executive Chef position at Splashes of Laguna Beach. Michael's culinary experience includes cooking at 3 Michelin starred restaurants including, The French Laundry in Napa Valley, Gotham Bar and Grill in New York and the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills.
Chef Michael states, "I am so excited with our new venture and the opportunity to create our menu from quality fresh ingredients available on the central coast. Our intention is to make Ocean Grill Avila Beach a very special place for locals and visitors as well. This is what I love to do and the central coast is where I want to be."
In the second phase of construction, the restaurant will add outdoor seating on raised decks with more ocean views and outdoor fireplaces.
