Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue Crews rescued two people from the Los Padres National Forest Saturday afternoon.

Officials say the hikers were completing a three-day backpacking trip when one of them hurt his or her leg.

Due to heavy rain and snow, the hikers decided to activate a Personal Locating Beacon around 12:30 p.m.

The Air Force Rescue Coordination Center contacted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Emergency Communications Center, and County Air Support Unit Copter 3 was sent out.

After the hikers were rescued, they were flown to the Santa Ynez Airport where they were treated for their injuries and released.

This was Copter 3's first search and rescue mission after being officially commissioned into the County Air Support Unit two weeks ago.
