No contest plea in local bank robbery case

One of the two people arrested after a bank robbery in Atascadero in April entered a no contest plea in court on Wednesday.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office says Tonya Young will be sentenced next month after pleading to a charge of second degree robbery.

Officers arrested Young and George Gonzales shortly after the Chase bank on El Camino Real in Atascadero was robbed on April 17. They were found in the parking lot of the nearby Walgreens. Police said Gonzales was hiding in the trunk of a car that Young was driving.

Gonzales is also suspected of robbing banks in Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach. At his first court appearance in April, Gonzales was charged with three counts each of robbery and burglary. He is due back in court later this month for arraignment in Superior Court.

Gonzales has a prior robbery conviction in Santa Clara County.
