You have to admit, we don't have drastic markings of the change of seasons. But they are out there...especially this year. And they're more proof, There's No Place Like Home.
As December arrives, a great portion of the country is well into winter weather. The temperatures have dropped and so have the leaves and most signs of fall.
But not on the central and south coast. With December arriving at our door, autumn, like most visitors, has found the weather here worth sticking around for. "I like the fall colors." says Dick Flanders. "I'm from the midwest, so I'm used to them."
And our warm days and cool nights this month have made for a spectacular kalidescope of color. "This year is gorgeous. This year is beautiful!" says Hussein Elkashef of San Luis Obispo. He's lived here 16 years but this year's color has him remembering the beauty of Montreal where he used to live. "It's really great, like up north where I used to live"
For folks who have migrated here from other regions rich with fall colors, this year's burst of bright orange, yellow and reds has them savoring the reminders of their roots and the riches of where they call home now. "This color here in the back looks like Montreal." says Elkashef. "It's really good. Really beautiful. But it is December, almost 70 degrees, which is great and you get the color so you can't beat that! he laughs.
It may not be one of your autumn rituals to go check out fall foliage, but you might consdier it.
Because the vistas of our vineyards, valleys and tree-lined neighborhoods this year are spectacular. "I like the change of seasons, so it's like a new beginning." says Flanders.
And where else do vibrant fall colors include beautiful blue skies and the arrival of December.
It's right in our own backyard.
