SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Officials say they've identified a 31-year-old Sacramento man who drowned after his boat sank near the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that the body of Andrew Henry Ewing washed up onto Angel Island. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted him at about 6 a.m. ending the two-day search.
The coroner's division says Ewing set out Sunday evening from Alameda in a 30-foot sailboat named the Alma. He planned on sailing to the Philippines.
But at 4:15 a.m. on Monday, the Coast Guard says they received a distress signal from the sailboat, which sank off the rocks prompting a search for the lone sailor.
The Marin coroner's division says they're investigating what went wrong but don't suspect foul play.
