Old explosives found in Oakland home

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Police say at least dozen residents of a West Oakland neighborhood evacuated their homes Wednesday while authorities disposed of several pounds of old explosives found in a home in the neighborhood.
An Oakland police spokeswoman says officers went to the home of a man around 1 p.m. Wednesday when he called police to say he would be turning in what was described as old TNT from World War II.
The Oakland Tribune (http://bit.ly/VAzF5x ) reports when officers arrived at the home they found about a half-dozen packets of the explosive material in the man's pickup truck.
The Alameda County Sheriff's bomb squad was called in to dispose of the explosives.
During the incident police had blocked off a stretch along the 900 block of 37th Street and gave residents the option of either evacuating or staying in their homes.
