According to the California Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old from Bakersfield died in a car accident on the Southbound 101 Saturday.
It happened around 2:20 a.m. on the freeway, just north of State Route 166.
Officials say three people were driving in a 2000 Jeep when the driver veered into the center guardrail.
The passenger in the back of the car was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. They landed on a lane in the freeway.
Officials aren't sure how many vehicles hit that person. None of the drivers who hit the ejected passenger stopped.
Officials say alcohol and drugs were not involved.
The victim has not been identified pending notification of the family.
The driver and other passenger, both from Bakersfield, have not been identified because they are minors. They both escaped with no injuries.
