Orcutt woman pleads guilty in sex with a minor case

A 48-year-old Orcutt woman has pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor.

Michelle Newberry made that plea on Monday, more than two years after she was charged with having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy over several years.

Newberry was arrested in 2011 after allegations surfaced that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

The boy was a friend of her daughter. Their relationship started in 2007.

As part of her plea, Newberry admitted to one count of sex with a minor and one count of oral copulation with the same boy.

"The emotional abuse and the psychological abuse have really changed his life," said the victim's mother.

The victim's mother spoke to KSBY during an earlier court hearing in 2011.

She said the relationship between her son and Newberry destroyed her family.

"As a mother, I feel very violated. It's just crazy. It's a selfish motive," said the victim's mother.

Newberry was sentenced to one year in the Santa Barbara County Jail and five years felony probation.

She will also have to register as a sex offender while she's on probation.

After her jail sentence, Newberry will have to wear a GPS monitor and take sex offender counseling.
