Out and About this weekend

Well we certainly need the rain, but if it's not going to arrive, you might as well get Out and About this weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

As you get your weekend groove going, you may want to head to Cal Poly tonight. Most of us are familiar with the Hawaiian dance "The Hula". But there is a lot of history and story behind the graceful movements and music that are apart of it. I got out and about with members of the Santa Maria Hula club and got my hula groove on in an impromptu lesson in Shell Beach recently. You'll see the story next Tuesday on "Out and About".

But tomorrow night members of the Santa Maria Hula club "Hoapili Pomaika'i Aloha" are sponsoring a movie at Cal Poly that will not only educate you on that history of hula, but likely inspire you a bit with the story, music and message.

The movie is called Haumana at it's being shown at the Alex and Faye Spanos Theater at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 and there will be some pre-screening entertainment. For ticket information, call (805)756-6265 or click here.

Should be beautiful in Morro Bay this weekend for the 18th Annual Winter Bird Fest. Every Martin Luther King Junior weekend, some 500 "birders" visit to watch, learn and photograph the local birds. Birders say they often spot more than 200 species. There are all kinds of family-friendly activities. The festival runs Saturday through Monday. For more information, click here.

Lovers of seafood may want to head to Atascadero this weekend. On Saturday the city's Rotary Club will hold it's annual crab feed with, obviously, a lot of crab as well as local beers and wines. Tickets are $50.00 with proceeds benefiting rotary club projects. The event happens at the Colony Inn. Call 466-5616.
