Righetti High baseball must wait until Friday afternoon to find out if it is the outright Pac 7 League champion or co-champion.
The Warriors wrapped up their finest regular season in six years on a nine game winning streak. They finished league 14-4 and 21-6 overall. Righetti is guaranteed at least a share of its first league title since 2007.
The Warriors finished fourth last year and lost in the wildcard round of the CIF playoffs.
Senior leaders say everything is clicking this season starting with one another. "It's definitely the team bonding and just playing for each other and not being selfish. We're just playing for one another and wanting to get the win," said senior right fielder Jake Van Allen. He's hitting .301 with 17 RBI and an on-base percentage of .453.
Pitching-wise, Righetti is led by junior Blade Kearns, who is 6-1 with an 1.77 ERA. Senior Troy Prober is 8-1 with a 2.28 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings.
"With me and Blade on the mound have been really solid all year. And just the team behind us, Cameron Jones in center field playing just amazing this year defensively and offensively. Our bats are just really getting it this year," said Prober, who's also hitting .321 with 20 RBI.
Jones is hitting .416 with 2 home runs. He leads the team with 32 hits, 31 runs scored and 22 stolen bases. Chris Curiel leads the team with 3 home runs and 26 RBI.
Righetti will earn the outright league title if Arroyo Grande loses to Atascadero on Friday. If the Eagles beat the Greyhounds, which they've done the first two games of the season, AG will share the title with Righetti and earn the league's #1 seed for CIF by virtue of taking 2 of 3 from Righetti.
The Warriors are ranked 10th in CIF's Division 2 Coaches Poll this week. The CIF playoff brackets will be released on Monday.
