Pac 7 Basketball: Atascadero boys, Pioneer Valley girls stay in title hunts

The Atascadero boys had three players in double figures as the Greyhounds ran by San Luis Obispo 66-49 on Friday night. Atascadero improved to 12-8 overall and 5-2 in league play. The Hounds entered a tie for second with St. Joseph, 2.5 games behind 8-0 Righetti.

Robbie Berwick led the Hounds with 16 points, Brady Youngquist poured in 13 and Jared Stuedemann added 12 points. Connor Kim chipped in 8 for Atascadero. David Thoreson led the Tigers with 14 points and Kwab Farkye added 12. The Tigers fell to 2-6 in league and 7-14 overall.

The San Luis Obispo girls swept the season series with Atascadero. The Tigers won 41-36 behind 10 points from Jessie Judge. Erica Chandler added 9 points and 8 rebounds for the Tigers. Camille Le Blanc led the Greyhounds with 18 points. The Tigers are 5-3 in league and 11-10 under head coach Dan Monroe. The Hounds fell to 3-4 and 11-7 after losing Cal Poly-bound Mary Kate Evans for the year with a foot injury earlier this month.

Ali Rodriguez scored 20 points to lead the Pioneer Valley girls by Paso Robles 50-33. The Panthers are 7-1 in league under Brian Cook and 16-4 overall. PV is one game back of idle and undefeated St. Joseph. Christine Aguilar contributed 10 points for PV. Molly Donovan led the Bearcats with 17 points. Paso Robles fell to 3-5 in league and 10-11 overall.

The Arroyo Grande girls beat up on Righetti 56-27. The Eagles are now 2-6 in league with both victories coming against Righetti. The Warriors fell to 0-8 in league and 6-16 for the season.

Behind four Bearcats with 10 or more points, the Paso Robles boys picked up a 66-50 win over Pioneer Valley. Josh Wilson-Murry led the Bearcats with 21 points. Josh Oliver finished with 13, Jaylon Davis scored 16 and Rudy Binkele had 10 for Paso Robles. The Bearcats are now 2-6 in league and 6-15 for the year. PV fell to 1-7 and 3-16.
